On Portugal & Portuguese Post/Neocolonialism: From Statues Graffitied
to Rock Culture
Andrew is a visiting researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra and holds a PhD in Portuguese Studies from King’s College London. He is interested in the interdisciplinary study of culture and forms of cultural production to understand contemporary societal issues and trends in Portugal and the rest of the Portuguese-speaking world. Andrew’s publications include: ‘Decolonising Difficult Heritage Through Political Graffiti: (Re)Interpreting the Commemoration of Pedro Álvares Cabral in Santarém’ (2025); ‘Reasserting Portuguese Influence in India? The Statue to Cristiano Ronaldo as Cultural Neocolonialism’ (2023); and Portuguese Representations of 1950s American Rock ‘n’ Roll (Sub)Culture: Luso-Retro (2025 [2019]).
