Maria Sledmere was raised in south west Scotland and lives in Glasgow where she writes, teaches and makes art. She is lecturer in English & Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde and managing editor of SPAM Press. Her latest poetry collection, Cinders, was recently published by Krupskaya. Later in 2024, a creative-critical monograph, Midsummer Song (Hypercritique), will be published by NoUP Press. Other books include Woundscape (Osmosis Press, 2023), An Aura of Plasma Around the Sun (Hem Press, 2023), Cocoa and Nothing - with Colin Herd (SPAM Press, 2023), Visions & Feed (HVTN Press, 2022) and The Luna Erratum (Dostoyevsky Wannabe, 2021). With Rhian Williams, she co-edited the anthology the weird folds: everyday poems from the anthropocene (Dostoyevsky Wannabe, 2020) and with Aaron Kent, The Last Song: Words for Frightened Rabbit (Broken Sleep, 2023). In 2023, Maria was included in the Saltire Society's ‘40 under 40’ list celebrating ‘outstanding Scottish creatives’. With musician Kevin Leomo, she is one half of PROJECT SOMNOLENCE, an artist-led odyssey through the sonic ecologies of sleep.
