Episode 41 Sangeeta Pillai
On Being a Bad Daughter, South Asian Culture & Feminism
Sangeeta was born a Bad Daughter, growing up in a Mumbai slum with a violent and traumatic childhood. She turned her pain into power by becoming a feminist activist, writer, podcaster and speaker – a leading voice for South Asian feminism globally.
She now lives in London and incites other women to challenge patriarchy, with her multi-award-winning Masala Podcast (winner of 6 British Podcast Awards and a major Spotify competition). Her feminist advocacy continues with her South Asian feminist network Soul Sutras, which includes theatre shows, workshops and live events. Sangeeta has been featured extensively in the press from BBC Radio, The Guardian, Metro, Cosmopolitan, Stylist, The Standard, Brown Girl Magazine, Deccan Herald to Huffington Post – as well as on giant billboards in New York and London.
Sangeeta is currently plotting a global Bad Daughter revolution.
